About Us

Coastal Commodities was originally founded as T-F Grain by two Eastern Shore natives in 1979. The principals were George Turner, a farmer, and Charles Floyd, a former plant manager for Dulany Foods in their Exmore, Virginia location. Starting on a shoestring budget, the initial office consisted of no more than a rusty pickup truck filled with filing boxes parked next to a temporary telephone box! Through their long established relationships with local farmers and a great deal of hard work they succeeded in a market that at the time had close to a dozen competitors. Over the next few years the business quickly grew to six employees, including the addition of two trucks and drivers.

Realizing the need for a country elevator in middle Northampton county led to the opening of the Eastville, Virginia location in 1986,volumes increased greatly, and in 1992 a rail siding was constructed there, opening even more marketing opportunities.

In the 2000's, even more marketing connections became available as grain began to be loaded on shipping containers, enabling smaller elevators such as ourselves to reach global markets.
